Alphabet Blogging: H is for Hobbies

What are your hobbies? says the Imagination Prompt Generator.  In the past few years my hobbies have completely changed.  At school I used to play a lot of musical instruments; piano, flute, saxophone and steel pans.  I was completely obsessed with the latter and spent hours practising.  I once worked out that we used to practise for around three hours a day, every day of the week.  My friendship group was formed around the steel band and I’m still in touch with many of them today, eighteen years after I left school.

After University I then moved into leading Guide and Scout groups, organising activities and going camping in the countryside.  Unfortunately, my stupidly stressful job and fairly long commute gets in the way far too often and I’m not able to make it to as many activities as I would like.

Now, I’m more into home based hobbies, cooking and craftiness.  I was taught how to knit and sew as a child, but I had pretty much forgotten how so I’m now refreshing and developing my skills and having a great time doing it!  Meanwhile, the piano sits in the dining room gathering dust….
