I’m always on the lookout for a new place to eat and my friend introduced me to The Green Way Cafe in Matlock in Derbyshire. It’s a vegetarian cafe that prepares all the food on site. It’s the kind of place that I never would’ve found myself as it’s quite hidden up a side street in an unassuming building.
I was really impressed with the menu. I had the deli selection; you choose two or three dishes and they’re served with salads and bread rolls. The salads were really imaginative, not just cucumber, tomatoes and a bit of floppy lettuce here! Instead there were sunflower seeds, mango, rice and a whole host of other goodies.
While we were waiting for our meals to arrive we were provided with some homemade humous with tortilla chips and carrot, celery and pepper sticks. This was a nice touch.
You can choose to have each dish in either snack or full-sized portions at set prices and there’s a choice of vegan, gluten free and organic dishes available. Some gorgeous looking homemade cakes were available but I was too full to try them!
There’s a choice of two rooms to sit in with a family room providing an area for children to play. It’s nice to find somewhere a bit different that doesn’t play it safe and serve paninis or bog-standard salads; I’ll definitely be going back!
