Alphabet Blogging: W is for Work

This post is a day late and I’m annoyed!  Not with you dear reader; but with myself.  At the beginning of the year I made a New Year’s resolution to spend less time doing work so that I’d have more time to do creative things and see more of my friends and family.  There are times when I’ve managed to do this without really trying, however last week wasn’t one of these weeks.

We’re nearing the end of the summer term in the UK and, rather than winding down towards our lovely summer break, I have found myself working more and more hours just to get everything done before my final deadline of July 21st.  School reports, marking of end of year tests, moderating the tests marked by colleagues, getting to know my new class whilst still trying to teach my current class, finish my university assignment…. the list goes on!  Last week I found myself working a 60 hour week just to fit everything in.

I refuse to do that this week, so I’m having to be strict with myself.  I have made two new rules for myself to try and preserve my sanity –

Number 1: the laptop will be turned off by 9pm to stop me from checking my e-mails.

Number 2: I am allowed to fall asleep on the sofa when it all gets too much.

So this is what happened last night, the work got done, but I neglected you!  I was going to write a post entitled ‘W is for Wanderlust’ but that will just have to wait for another time!  The laptop had to go off and I fell asleep on the sofa covered with a fleecy blanket, despite it being 24°C outside!  At least our six week break over the summer will be a good reward for this madness!
