Day 73: 180 Degrees

Tell us about a time you did a 180 — changed your views on something, reversed a decision, or acted in a way you ordinarily don’t.

This evening I think I have surprised my husband and little B. I’m normally fairly happy-go-lucky and don’t get too angry about anything. This evening was different and I received a phone call that made me seethe with anger. In the past, this would have made me cry but, since I’ve become a mum I’ve been doing this a lot more, I became quietly determined. I didn’t cry, I just kept restating the sane points until I felt that they might actually have realised how angry I am.

Long story short – I’ve been complaining to them since April last year that I hadn’t received any power bills. I keep complaining but to no avail. Eventually I get three different bills and a phone call from a debt collection agency despite the date on the bill that it has to be paid by still not having arrived.

My tone changed, my whole demeanor changed and I think the person on the other end of the phone at our utility company was left in absolutely no doubt how angry I actually was and how I wasn’t going to stop until it’s sorted out. My husband even used it as a teaching exercise with little B “that’s angry mummy, don’t ever make mummy angry”.

I’m under no illusions that what I said will have any effect, none of the previous phone calls have either, but a quietly determined email to the energy ombudsman should push home my point.
