Tell us about something you know you should do . . . but don’t.
This year I’m studying towards a Postgraduate Certificate called the National Special Needs Coordination Award. This means I spend seven days in a freezing cold conference centre in deepest, darkest Derbyshire and have the pleasure of two 5000 word case studies to compete.
I have to compete this course due to my new job as it’s now a requirement to have it if you are a state school SENCo. The lectures are really useful and interesting (though have been a little bit too ‘death by Powerpoint’ for my liking), but the assignments are pushing me over the edge. I already have a Masters degree in Special Needs, so why the hell am I having to do another load of assignments at the same level? Well, apparently, my old course is ‘out of date’. Seriously, how much can change in five years?
So here I am; desperately trying to put off researching and writing my first assignment. The deadline is getting ever closer, but I can’t summon any motivation whatsoever to get on with it. I know I’ll feel better to have got it done and dusted but even that’s not pushing me towards the computer!

What a waste of time. No wonder the education system is losing all its best teachers. ‘They’ should let us get on with doing the job we know best – TEACHING!
