Sunday Scribblings: Sensation

Dictionary.com gives five definitions for ‘sensation’, one of which is ‘a mental condition or physical feeling resulting from stimulation of a sense organ’.

As I write this I’m experiencing the sensation of the hairs on the back of my neck bristling  and it’s not altogether unpleasant!  The reason for this is that I’m watching the Last Night of the Proms on TV and I think there’s something about the BBC Orchestra playing the National Anthem and Land of Hope and Glory.  I love the pomp and circumstance of events like this – makes me proud to be a Brit!

I love the fact that music has this amazing power to produce a sensation such as this; the combination of sounds, rhythms and pitches that causes the listener to lose themselves in the moment.  There are certain pieces that have me in tears – Music by John Miles brings back memories from my teenage years, make me laugh -anything my Monty Python, make me think of my husband – The Luckiest by Ben Folds, or make me want to scream – pretty much anything by X-Factor contestants!

Which pieces of music make the hairs on your neck stand on end?

  1. I’ve been really into “First Day of My Life” by Bright Eyes and also the “Question” by Old 97’s. Both are reflective of finally being with someone I want to spend the rest of my life with.
