October Sleep 27: Tracking

I wear a smartwatch that tracks my steps and my sleep. When the kids were little, I used to show my husband the sleep tracking each morning to prove how many times I’d been up in the night, mainly in an attempt to make him feel a bit guilty because he never heard them in the night! I’d also feel hard done by if it didn’t detect my walk along the landing to soothe the small child!

In hindsight, I don’t think this really helped my mental health. My obsession with how many times I’d been up made me feel like I hadn’t slept at all. Whilst this was sometimes true, it didn’t happen every night – even if it did feel like it!

I stopped looking every day and immediately noticed the difference. Although I was still tired, I didn’t feel as tired.

For those of you who’ve been inspired to stop tracking their sleep, either today or in the past, how did it go? How do you feel now that you’ve done it? Did it improve the quality of your sleep? Add your comments below.

Come back tomorrow for your next nudge into peaceful sleep.
