October Sleep 20: Lighting

As I sit on the sofa, I realise how the lighting in our lounge is doing nothing to help me to be ready for sleep. The overhead light is far too bright for this time of the day. We have a smaller, lower wattage light that we regularly forget to put on but, having just made the effort to change the lighting, I realise it’s far better to provide a gentle reduction in light to help my body realise it’s almost time for bed.

Have a think about the lighting in your home. Does it help you to wind down in the evenings? Is there a way you could change it to help to improve the quality of your sleep?

I’ve realised as I write these posts that many of the suggestions I’m making are those that we’d use for getting babies into a bedtime routine. I think that sometimes we need to do the same thing for ourselves.

For those of you who’ve been inspired to change your lighting, either today or in the past, how did it go? How do you feel now that you’ve done it? Did it improve the quality of your sleep? Add your comments below.

Come back tomorrow for your next nudge into peaceful sleep.
