October Sleep 14: Dark

Our bodies are designed to respond to light levels to help our internal body clocks to know when to sleep and when to rise. Sometimes we confuse the process by exposing it to light from our phones or the TV and then our bodies find it difficult to close down at bedtime. In the morning you may wake too early because the curtains in your bedroom don’t block out enough light.

What steps could you take to reduce light in your bedroom? Do you need to put down your phone, think about what you’re watching or perhaps invest in a blackout blind?

For those of you who’ve been inspired to make your sleep space darker, either today or in the past, how did it go? How do you feel now that you’ve done it? Did it improve the quality of your sleep? Add your comments below.

Come back tomorrow for your next nudge into peaceful sleep.
