September Productivity Prompt Day 17: Tidy the ‘Drop Zone’

How often do you come in the front door after work and dump your bag, coat, keys and anything else you have in your hands within a metre of the entrance?

How often do you spend time searching for your belongings in those precious moments before you leave because you couldn’t put things where they belonged the previous evening because your ‘drop zone’ was a disorganised mess?

Let’s get it sorted together.

Go and stand inside the entrance to your home. What do you notice?

Are there items that don’t belong there? Carry out a ‘27 things‘ task.

Is there a pile of snail mail? Do this.

Is it because you’ve been so productive this month that you’ve got items near the door that need to go to a charity shop or to a recycling centre? If so, we’ll done!

Now think about how you could maintain this space so that it doesn’t become overwhelming again. Do you need a specific place to place your keys? Do you need pegs on which to hang bags/ coats/ hats/ anything else you need with you when you leave the house?

For those of you who’ve been inspired to conquer the ‘drop zone’ either today or in the past, how did it go? How do you feel now that you’ve done it? Add your comments below.

Come back tomorrow for your next nudge into productivity.
