How often does someone offer you help and you say ‘no, no, it’s ok, I can do it’ because you think it’s your role/ they won’t do it properly/ you’ve always done it/ you don’t want to impose on them (delete as appropriate!).
How often do you then feel overwhelmed with your ever growing list of tasks to complete and wish that you’d just said yes!
Next time someone offers to help, you’re going to say yes. Not ‘yes, if it’s not too much trouble.’ Not ‘yes, if you really don’t mind.’ Not ‘yes, but I’ll do it with you.’
Just a simple ‘yes.’
And then you’re going to let it go. You’re not going to worry if they’re too busy – they probably wouldn’t have offered if they really didn’t have time. You’re not going to worry if they regret offering – they just won’t offer in the future. You’re definitely not going to worry about whether they’ll do it properly – they’ll do it their way. You’re just going to let them get on with it.
For those of you who’ve been inspired to accept help, either today or in the past, how did it go? How do you feel now that you’ve done it? Add your comments below.
