September Productivity Prompt Day 4: Everyday Carry

How often do you reach into your bag and find it difficult to find what you need?

How often do you reach into bag to get something and pull out a spare pair of pants for your small child – or is that just me?

How often do you rub your shoulder because your bag is so heavy?

Let’s get it sorted together. Sit yourself down with your everyday carry and a coffee. Don’t tip your bag upside down, the pile will just make you feel bad. Instead, take one item out at a time and consider it using the following question: Does it need to be in my everyday carry? If not, use the criteria you used yesterday to rehome it. Repeat this process until you have an empty bag.

Look at the items you considered to be essential to your everyday carry. Look at them as a collection, are there any that do the same duty? If so, rehome them.

Now put your essentials back in your bag. Pick it up – are the essentials manageable to carry?

It’s easy to shove things in your bag as you travel through life, but how could you make this a regular task, especially if it makes your life easier.

For those of you who’ve been inspired to conquer your everyday carry, either today or in the past, how did it go? How do you feel now that you’ve done it? Add your comments below.

Come back tomorrow for your next nudge into productivity.
