Sometimes the thought of tidying your home feels completely overwhelming. You want to make your home a more pleasant place to be, but you lack the energy and enthusiasm to get the job done.
Let’s attack a small part of it together by rehoming just 27 things. There’s no real reason why it’s 27, but it just seems to work!
Arm yourself with a bin, something to collect recycling in and the promise of a coffee when you’re done.
Go to the room that you want to attack. Together we’re going to throw away, recycle or put away 27 items. Let’s get counting.
Pick up an item that isn’t where it should be. If it’s rubbish, put it in the bin. If it needs recycling, put it in your recycling container. If it needs putting away somewhere in your home, put it in a pile in the middle of the room. Repeat this process 27 times. If it’s going really well, push on until you get 30!
Once you’ve processed your 27 items, you need to turn your attention to the pile in the middle of the room. Sort through this pile, reconsider if it needs keeping and if you choose to keep it you now make new piles – one for each room in your home. This makes it easier to return everything to its proper home. Once it’s all sorted, get it put away.
Now reward yourself with a coffee.
For those of you who’ve been inspired to conquer misplaced items, either today or in the past, how did it go? How do you feel now that you’ve done it? Add your comments below.
